Elizabeth City Civil War Trails
Visitors to Elizabeth City can now embark on a self-guided
tour of six historical markers featured in Civil War Trails, a national
program that links Civil War battlegrounds and sites in 28 states and
more than 800 interpretative markers in Virginia, Maryland, Tennessee
and North Carolina.
Located within walking distance of the city’s historic
downtown waterfront, the markers depict events that took place in
Elizabeth City from 1862-1863 – a time when residents were
split between the warring actions of the pro-Union supporters
(Buffaloes) and the pro-Confederate sympathizers (Guerillas).
Pick up a “Civil War Trails in Elizabeth City”
brochure at the Elizabeth City Area Convention & Visitors
Bureau and the Museum of the Albemarle. Or
download a copy
